I am pleased to announce today the appointment of Mr Mark Le Poer Trench as a Judge of the Family Court of Australia.

Mr Le Poer Trench was admitted to practise as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1974. He worked as a solicitor until 1979, including as a partner in the firm, J M French and Co, Penrith. He was a founding member of the Penrith Legal Centre and served as Secretary of the Near Western Law Society in 1979.

In 1980, Mr Le Poer Trench was called to the Bar where his practice has principally been in the areas of family law, appellate advocacy, children’s matters and de facto relationships. He is a member of the New South Wales Bar Association Family Law Committee and is a former member of the Legal Aid Review Committee.

Mr Le Poer Trench’s appointment commences on 10 October 2001 and fills the vacancy at the Sydney Registry of the Court resulting from the retirement of the Hon Justice Peter Moss.
