Press Release Ref: 1556 Published: 1/8/2005 Title: Community based Infrastructure Tasforce beneficial

The establishment of Infrastructure Taskforces in both the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla Shires would be of great benefit to communities along the far south coast, Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, said today.

“I understand that the State Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, has written to the Mayors of both Councils suggesting this occurs,” he said.

“If a good cross-section of the community within both shires was involved in the Taskforce I could see some enormous advantages.”

Mr Nairn understands that achieving the right infrastructure at the right time is often not easy, particularly when several levels of Government are involved.

“It is important that community effort is focussed and co-ordinated in its approach to those various levels of Government,” he said.

“I understand that organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce have indicated a willingness to be involved, as has other community groups.

“Infrastructure Taskforces would be very beneficial in supporting representation I may make to Government and I would welcome the opportunity to work with such organisations,” Mr Nairn concluded.
