MEDIA RELEASE The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP Minister for the Environment and Water Resources

T165/07 30th August 2007

Kevin Rudd misleadingly claimed this morning that Labor does not have access to information relating to the assessment of the Tamar Valley pulp mill proposal.

Asked about the issue on the 6PR morning show, Mr Rudd claimed:

We've got to get all the information. Mr Turnbull hasn't given it to us, he's got it in his possession...

This is completely untrue.

Mr Rudd and Peter Garrett know full-well that the information and the Departmental recommendations were published on my Department's website on the 19 August 2007 for anyone to access.

These documents were made publicly available to inform this third invitation for public comment on the proposal from 20-31 August 2007.

Indeed almost 25,000 people have sent submissions to my Department following the public release of this information.

Mr Rudd is either deliberately misleading the public or has remained wilfully ignorant.
