ABC MANAGEMENT FLIES HIGH WHILE BTN CRASHES

ABC senior management have indulged in lavish taxpayer funded travel while axing the hugely popular and cheap Behind the News TV program. Clearly the ABC’s belt tightening in response to Howard Government cutbacks has not extended to senior executive travel.

Senior ABC executives have been going on overseas jaunts costing Australian taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. ABC management are billing taxpayers for lengthy trips that often cost more than $1,000 a day.

Taxpayers have every right to a full account of ABC executive travel which is costing the cash strapped broadcaster hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. ABC management must be able to fully justify the large number of overseas senior management trips that cost over $1,000 a day.

While the ABC is perfectly entitled to legitimate overseas travel for production and business reasons, executive travel junkets should not be tolerated at our ABC. Australian taxpayers and kids missing out on Behind the News deserve better than this.
