Media Release 16 February 2004

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORTING LOCAL DEFENCE FAMILIES The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull today reminded our local defence community that final applications for grants under the Family Support Funding Program (FSFP) are due by the 30 April 2004.

“FSFP grants are a great way to help meet the needs of our local Defence community, particularly to reduce some of the impacts of mobility,” Mrs Hull said.

“Funds provided by FSFP can allow our community to work together on a variety of self-help projects and I hope that many service families in the Riverina will be able to benefit this year from FSFP grants.”

Examples of the local activities and groups that received FSFP grants last year include: • $32, 355 to the Kapooka Community Centre for projects to assist with the integration of Defence families within Kapooka and the Wagga Military Area. • $14,550 to the Wagga Wagga Defence Newsletter who produce and publish a

newsletter to provide regular information to service families.

The five local projects funded by the FSFP are worth a total of $67,681.

The main round of applications closes in Canberra on 30 April 2004 however as applications are processed through Local Defence Community Organisation offices local deadlines may occur earlier.

Applications can be made using the online application form which can be found at www.dco.dod.gov.au

“I encourage all local Defence community groups to consider making an application for an FSFP grant,” Mrs Hull said. (End)
