“There’s Never Been a Better Time to Become an Australian Citizen” Monday, 23 January 2006

With Australia Day approaching Federal Member for Tangney, Dennis Jensen has encouraged all Australian permanent residents in the electorate to apply for Australian citizenship.

“Australia Day is a great reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a fantastic country,” Dr Jensen said.

“There are over 900,000 permanent residents Australia wide, currently eligible to become Australian citizens.”

“I would encourage all permanent residents to consider the option of being formally recognised as an Australian by becoming a citizen.”

“Being a first generation Australian myself - I know first hand the opportunities available to Australian citizens,” Dr Jensen said.

Dr Jensen said citizenship was a way of uniting and gathering the people of Australia as one.

“Citizenship is about the people of Australia sharing the common goal of working together to make this country a better place,” he said.

“Becoming a citizen is way of taking pride in your country and being part of Australia's dynamic and diverse society.”

Dr Jensen said this Australia Day he would attend citizenship ceremonies throughout the Tangney electorate in the morning and spend the evening watching the annual Australia Day fireworks with his family on the banks of the Swan River.
