OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

Western Victoria’s budding young entrepreneurs and business people involved in agriculture, fisheries, forestry and food ventures are being encouraged to apply for a dynamic four day course that will hone their business skills.

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, has called for local applications for the Enhancing Entrepreneurial Skills Course to be held in Melbourne from 10-13 September 2007.

“The inaugural course held in May 2007 was a resounding success,” he said.

“I’m keen to see young Western Victorians who manage, own or work in a rural or regional business participating in this excellent learning opportunity.”

Mr Hawker said that over four challenging days participants will explore the bigger picture of their operating environment and supply chain issues, as well as the fundamentals of growing their business, adopting innovation and recognising opportunities.

“The mix of practical sessions, key note speakers, business theory and the sharing of ideas and experience with other leading young entrepreneurs has proven to be a vigorous and rewarding way to create networks and ensure achievement,” he said.

“Motivated young people bring fresh ideas and new energy to rural industries and communities. The Australian Government is keen to provide young entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, encouragement and profile that will further strengthen our agriculture, fisheries, forestry and food industries.”

Mr Hawker said all course costs, travel, accommodation and meals will met for around 15 participants from across Australia aged 18-35.

“I’d love to see a local represented in this group,” he said.

Applications for the course close 5.00pm (AEST), Monday 23 July 2007.

The Enhancing Entrepreneurial Skills Course is part of the Australian Government’s Advancing Agricultural Industries Programme. For further information, including eligibility criteria, or to access the online application: visit www.yarn.gov.au email aai@daff.gov.au or phone (02) 6272 3292.
