Western Australia Finalists Announced For Australia's Premier Export Awards

Thursday, 4 November 2004

Nine Western Australian businesses have been announced as finalists in this year’s Australian Export Awards.

The Australian Export Awards, run by Australia’s peak export assistance body, Austrade, showcase and reward Australia’s top businesses for their success in exporting local products and services to the world.

The 2004 finalists for Western Australia include WAMMCO International, Storyteller Media Group Pty Ltd, GEOs Perth Pty Ltd, Australian Gold Reagents Pty Ltd, Metrocount Millenium Chemicals, Hammersley Iron Pty Ltd, Mt Romance Australia Pty Ltd, RSG Global Pty Ltd and Burswood Resort Casino

Announcing the finalists, Trade Minister Mark Vaile, congratulated the businesses on their nominations and emphasised the position they now hold as role models for Australian businesses looking to export to world markets.

“The businesses I have mentioned here today should be extremely proud of the contribution they have made towards building a stronger Australian economy,” Mr Vaile said.

“Their nomination as finalists gives a clear indication of how hard their management and staff have worked to become successful Australian exporters.”

Mr Vaile said that it was very encouraging to see a large number of regional and small to medium sized businesses included in the list of finalists.

“Encouraging regional and small to medium businesses to export their products and services is a priority for the Australian Government,” he said.

“Seeing a number of finalists from both of these areas clearly shows that the assistance and encouragement Austrade provides to business is paying dividends.”

Austrade provided export assistance to a record 11,000 Australian businesses in 2003 - 2004. Of the 74 finalists nominated in this year’s Australian Export Awards, 46 have received Export Market Development Grants from Austrade. These grants are an integral part of helping companies export as they reimburse the company for eligible export promotion costs

Mr Vaile will announce the winners of the 2004 Australian Export Awards at a gala dinner on Thursday 9 December 2004 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
