Cash splash fails Australian manufacturing workers

Today's AiG/PWC Performance of Manufacturing index proves uncategorically that Rudd Labor's December cash splash has failed to support Australian manufacturing jobs.

Not only did the index fall to the lowest level ever, there was a massive collapse in the employment sub-index.

It appears that what little retail activity the December cash splash did encourage went to the purchase of products that were not necessarily Australian in origin - doing nothing to help insulate Australian manufacturing workers from the downturn.

Australian workers who believed Mr Rudd when he said "I don't want to be Prime Minister of a country that doesn't make things" have every right to be angry at his failure to live up to his promise.
