IP Australia: more than just a new name

Better service for its customers will be the keystone of IP Australia, the federal agency that grants patent, trade mark and design rights, the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Warren Truss, said today.

IP Australia was chosen as the new corporate identity for the former Australian Industrial Property Organisation in response to customer market research.

“One o f the key issues identified during consultations with customers was the need for a more recognisable name,” Mr Truss said.

The Minister said IP Australia's new Customer Service Charter, also launched today, would provide many benefits for the organisation’s customers. Other commitments by the organisation include some fee reductions and free access to IP Australia's databases on the Internet.

The Charter has been developed in close consultation with IP Australia customers.

“IP Australia supports innovative development which is often the key to providing a company with an edge over its competitors,” Mr Truss said.

Working with key stakeholders, IP Australia has mounted a marketing campaign to raise awareness in Australian industry about the importance of intellectual property.

IP Australia is among the first Commonwealth agencies to launch a Customer Service Charter spelling out its commitment to providing high quality service to customers. Already 20 charters have been completed and are being implemented and a further 90 are being planned.

The Charter establishes processes to monitor performance, with regular reviews to ensure that IP Australia maintains and improves its promised standards. The Charter represents a major commitment to be customer focused and to respond to customer needs.

“IP Australia welcomes input from customers as part o f its commitment to meet customer demands for quality service,” Mr Truss said
