MINISTER WELCOMES NEW DEFENCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

The Minister for Defence, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, today announced the release of a new request for tender (RFT) document which will provide new business opportunities for Defence Industry suppliers.

Mr Fitzgibbon said the release of the new tender by the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) for its Support Services panel would provide project teams, sustainment offices and other DMO and Defence business units with streamlined access to a broad range of preferred service providers for the provision of short term specialist support.

“The Defence Materiel Organisation Support Services (DMOSS) panel already exists and has been very successful to date. This request for tender allows the DMO to approach the market for new skill sets as required and allows companies to tender for additional skill sets whenever their capacity/capability allows,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“It’s good news for Defence and DMO but also for industry, especially small business. It provides streamlined access for both Defence and suppliers, and the way the panel operates provides a level playing field without diminishing competition.”

The refresh of the panel will hold existing Service Providers at previously agreed rates for skill sets and skill levels. They will not be able to ‘re-bid’ for previously included skill sets and levels, unless they wish to reduce their existing rates.

Mr Fitzgibbon said, that there were previously 12 disciplines, 71 skill sets and four practitioner skill levels.

“Now there are 13 disciplines; 83 skill sets and five skill levels.”

New skill sets include Project Support, Quality Management: Audits, Specialist Risk and Insurance Advice, Acquisition and Sustainment Logistics, Facilities Requirement Analysis and Planning and a host of other specialist services.

More skill sets will be added to the panel over time when they are suitably mature for release to industry

The RFT has been released through AusTender with a closing date of 21 April 2009. Announcement of new Panel Members is expected in July 2009.
