50 new jobs for Indigenous people created in Western Australia

Minister for Employment Participation Mark Arbib today announced 50 new full-time jobs for Indigenous Australians in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.

Senator Arbib said the jobs would be created a result of a new partnership between Fletcher International WA and the Australian Government.

“This is fantastic news for Indigenous Australians in the Great Southern Region. These jobs will not only provide full-time employment but on the job training in Certificates II and III in meat processing,” Senator Arbib said.

“I congratulate Fletcher International on its commitment to ensuring career opportunities are available to Indigenous Australians interested in working in Australia’s meat industry.

“Partnerships between the Government and private sector are vital in ensuring that the gap in employment opportunities between Indigenous Australians and non-Indigenous Australians is closed.”

Fletcher International Directors Roger and Gail Fletcher are proud of the partnership between the company and the government.

“We look forward to the 50 new Indigenous employees starting in our company,” Mr and Mrs Fletcher said.

“Our entire management team was promoted from within Fletcher and they all started as trainees. We look forward to our new Indigenous trainees following the same career path as they complete their training.”

The agreement has been developed with support from the Australian Government’s Indigenous Employment Program (IEP).

The IEP is a key element of the Governments $4.6 billion investment to halve the employment gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians within a decade.
