Hartsuyker welcomes Mark Vaile’s election as leader of The Nationals

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, has welcomed the election of Mark Vaile as the new leader of The Nationals.

Mr Vaile was elected leader of the party at a meeting in Parliament House last night. Agriculture Minister Warren Truss was elected deputy leader of The Nationals.

“Mark Vaile is an outstanding advocate for the interests of rural and regional Australia,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“As Trade Minister for the past six years and as the Member for Lyne he has demonstrated the energy and commitment necessary to represent the interests of Australians who live outside of main metropolitan areas.

”Since 1989 Mark has also been the deputy leader of The Nationals and formed a very strong leadership along with John Anderson.

‘Under Mark Vaile and Warren Truss that strong voice of the bush will continue.”

Mr Hartsuyker said the resignation of John Anderson as The Nationals leader represented a sad loss for the party.

“John Anderson has been a leader of our party who always had a depth of knowledge on the subject, had a concern and passion for regional and rural Australia, and had a commitment to family values and his Christian values,” Mr Hartsuyker told the Parliament

“He has always spoken the truth, worked hard, acted with integrity and delivered real outcomes for the people of Australia. He is a truly great Australian.

”I know the new leadership team will continue his good work.”
