GRANTS OF UP TO $5,000 FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, is urging local non-profit organisations to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to purchase equipment and cover the cost of petrol under the 2009 Volunteer Grants program.

Since 2001, non‐profit organisations in Western Victoria have been able to apply for grants to support their work and in recognition of the valuable contribution volunteers make to their communities.

Local community organisations can apply for grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to help purchase a variety of equipment to assist the work of volunteers.

In previous years, organisations have used the grants to purchase items such as first aid kits, gardening equipment, microwaves and printers.

“This funding provides welcome support to local voluntary organisations who contribute so much to help our community,” Mr Hawker said.

Information on the 2009 Volunteer Grants program and an online application form can be found at http://www.fahcsia.gov.au/sa/volunteers/funding/Pages/volunteer_grant09.aspx.

Paper‐based application forms are also available by calling 1800 183 374 or by emailing vg2009@fahcsia.gov.au.

Applications close on Friday 25 September 2009 at 5pm AEST.
