Agriculture Minister to Visit Indonesia 20 June 2011 DAFF11/180L

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Senator Joe Ludwig will tomorrow visit Jakarta where he will hold talks with his Indonesian counterpart and senior officials regarding the live animal export trade.

This is Minister Ludwig’s second official visit to the country, and comes as Australia and Indonesia continue to work together to re-open the Indonesian market for Australian live cattle exports.

“Indonesia is one of our closest trading partners,” Minister Ludwig said.

“It is a relationship of tremendous importance to Australia and the Australian Government remains committed to working constructively and cooperatively with Indonesia on this issue.”

Indonesia is Australia's fourth-largest market for agricultural exports, behind Japan, China and the US. In 2009-10, the value of two-way trade between Australia and Indonesia was A$11.8 billion.
