Tasmania - A Diverse Provider to Defence

The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, welcomed the launch of the Defence Initiative 2011 brochure today.

The new brochure showcases Tasmania’s defence sector. The purpose of the brochure is to encourage more Tasmanian companies to enter the defence market.

Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings launched the brochure at Angelsea Barracks.

This event was sponsored by Defence Reserves Support - Tasmania (DRS-TAS) and the Tasmanian Government Department of Economic Development.

“Tasmanian companies are providing a wide range of products to the Australian Defence Force, particularly within the maritime sector,” Senator Feeney said.

“This new brochure features more than 30 companies and a snapshot of the diverse range of products and services produced in this State as well as defence-related work opportunities,” Senator Feeney said.

DRS-TAS State Manager, Major David Zehmeister said: “Tasmania supports a wide range of Defence activities around the globe.”

Major Zehmeister hopes the feature story about DRS will inform local civilian employers about the benefits of Reserve service.

Director Naval Reserve Support Captain Glenn Tinsley and other senior Defence officials attended the launch.
