The polar vessel Nella Dan (under charter to the Australian

Senator Anderson received a message -from Mr. Macklin of the

Department of Supply's Antarctic Division, who is in charge of the operations

on the Nella Dan,

The message said the two Australian helicopters and one French

helicopter completed the operation at 6 p.m. L.A.T. yesterday by flying the

remaining 31 members of the French expedition from Dumont D'Urville to

Thala Dan, together with 4,000 lb. of essential cargo, and had landed

12,000 lb. of equipment from Thala Dan at Dumont D'Urville.

Thala Dan moved out of the pack ice into the open pool to rejoin

Nella Dan just before the completion of the operation, and by 8.30 p.m.

both ships reached the open sea and headed north.
