SECOND BLACK: ARROW LAUNCiiI.NG Foil •t'OODI .i A

(Statement by the Minister for Supply, Senator Ken Anderson)

The second developmental firing of the Black Arrow satellite-launching vehicle is scheduled to take place from Woomera within the

next fortnight.

The Minister for Supply, Senator Ken Anderson, said this in

Sydney today (Nov. 18).

Black Atrow is a three-stage rocket designed and built in

Britain, and is being developed for the launching of payloads of

200 lb or more into orbit.

The first vehicle in the developmental program was fired

from Woomera on June 28, 1969.

The round was destroyed after a fault developed in the

control system of one of the four pairs of first-stage thmst

chambers.

Like the first vehicle, the send one will be fired in a

north-westerly direction, with impact of the upper stages planned

to occur clear of all land in tho Indian Ocean.

The second vehicle is not intended to place a satellite in

orbit.
