BL:_C ( ARROW LAUNCHING POSTPO NE

(Statement by the Minister for Supply, Senator Ken Anderson)

The second developmental firing of Britain's Black Arrow satellite-launching vehicle from Woomera will not take place before the end of this year.

The Ianister for Supply, Senator Ken Anderson, said this in Canberra

today (]December 9).

Senator Anderson said: "Analysis of the results of the two static

firings carried out on the vehicle at Woomera have confirmed that the structure

and the main propulsion systems are now ready for flight tests.

'' However, some further work remains to be done o.n the electrical

power supply in the second stage of the vehicle.

"Because of this it has been decided to defer the flight test until

early in the new year, so that validation of the further work on the second

stage and further static testing can take place."
