(Statement by the Minister for External Territories, the Hon. C.E. Barnes, M. P. )

A striking exhibit on Papua and New Guinea will be on display at the Royal Perth Show, MiacFarlane Pavilion, Perth Showgrounds, from 24 September to 1 October, 1970.

Announcing this today, the Minister for External Territories, Mr Barnes, said that the purpose of the exhibit was to show Australians the remarkable progress being made in the Territory in all fields.

The exhibit will be constructed of Territory timbers, and the Territory's main exports - coconut products, coffee, cocoa, timber, rubber, tea, pyrethrum and passionfruit - will be on display.

Extracts from Captain Cook's diary relating to his discovery and naming of Norfolk Island are also featured.

Officers of the Department of Lxternal Territories and a New Guinean, Mr Luke Umbo, will staff the display. Mr Umbo, 23, was born in the East Sepik District and is at present a broadcasting officer at Radio Wewak.

Latest publications on the Australian Territories will be available at the display.
