TORY POLICE OFFICi.R TO AT2EI D INVESTITURE

(Statement by the Linister for External Territories, the Hon. C.L. Barnes, L.P.)

Sub-Inspector Daniel Gire of the Royal Papua and New Guinea Constabulary will receive his British Empire h.edal at Government House, Canberra, on 23 October.

Announcing this today the Irinister for External Territories, I:r Barnes, said that Sub-Inspector and Mrs Gire were invited to Australia for the investiture ceremony by the Prime Minister Mr Gorton. The Sub-Inspector served as escort officer and accompanied the Prime Minister throughout Mr Gorton's visit to Papua and New Guinea in July.

Sub-Inspector Gire was awarded the B.E.K. for out-standing service and loyalty to the R.P.N.G.C.

In Australia, Sub-Inspector and Irs Gire will visit both Sydney and Canberra from 21-28 October.

Sub-Inspector Gire was born at I ;atupit Village, East New Britain. He joined the R.P.N.G.C. as a constable in 1960 and was selected as one of the first officer cadets in 1963.

He raduated in February 1968 after completing a course at the Australian Police College.

Sub-Inspector Gire was posted to Barapina as the leader of a mobile unit and later to Rabaul.

An all-round sportsman, Sub-Inspector Gire has repre-sented Papua and iew Guinea at Rugby League.
