TRANSPORTABLE CLASSROOM UNIT FOR NORTH CURTIM PRE-SCHOOL CENTRE

The Department of Education and Science announced today that arrangements had been completed for a transportable pre-school building to be located at the Ayers Street, North Curtin Pre-School Centre. The new unit, which comprises a classroom and associated toilet facilities was built by the firm of John Lysaght Australia Ltd. It has been placed in position. by the National Capital Development Commission and services are now being connected.

Due to the current structure of the population in the northern parts of the Woden (Talley many parents have not been able to enrol their children at the pre-school centre in their immediate neighbourhood area. In the North Curtin area alone there are 84 children in the >a to 5 years age group awaiting enrolment at the Ayers Street Centre.

The new transportable unit will enable 50 additional children to be enrolled at Ayers Street. As the peak level of pre-school enrolments is expected to be of relatively short duration it would be uneconomic to extend the permanent building. The Department anticipates that the transportable unit, - will be moved to another location at the end of the 1 972

school year.

The Department experts to commence operations in the new building during the week commencing 23 March. Miss Joan Langham has been appointed as teacher and she will contact parents to arrange enrolments.
