al-Assad regime must stop its brutality against the Syrian people

Wednesday, 01 June 2011

The regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must immediately halt the brutality being inflicted upon the Syrian people.

After weeks of deadly violence against unarmed protestors, shocking evidence of atrocities is emerging including the torture and killing of a 13 year old boy.

Those responsible for this horrific crime and other acts of violence must be apprehended and brought to justice.

Syrian security forces have reportedly killed hundreds of people from among the many thousands who have taken to the streets in protest against the regime and its oppression of their desire for greater freedom.

The al-Assad regime must respect the fundamental human rights of the Syrian people, including the right to peacefully protest and to live their lives free from the fear of violence.

The Coalition supports the call of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for a “mission to be sent to Syria to investigate alleged violations of international human rights law and crimes committed against civilians.”
