TALKS - SOUTH PACIFIC AVIATION

STATEMENT BY MINISTER FOR CIVIL J'. VTTION MR.:.I. S RTZ

Ministers responsible for civil aviation in South Pacific

countries will attend talks in Melbourne next month.

The talks will be held from September 10th-12th,..

Announcing this today, the Australian i`inister for Civil

Aviation, 14r. R.-. Swartz, said that he had invited Ministers

from Fiji, New Zealand and the Dni,ted Kingdom, which as members

of the South Pacific Air Transport Council contribute to the

cost of Nadi Airport, Fiji. questions associated with the

development of Nadi Airport for the new generation of large

jet aircr&ft were of special concern to these countries.

r. Swartz said he had also invited representatives of

the Governments ofWestern Samoa, Nauru and Ton p to take part

in the discussion on regional civil aviation matters.

He said all these parties had an interest in Fiji.
