Recognising excellence in aged care

Nominations are being invited for the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care, with awards totalling $100,000.

The Minister for Ageing, Christopher Pyne, launched this year’s awards at the opening of Glengollan Village at Ferntree Gully.

Mr Pyne said the awards provided an opportunity for the Australian Government and the community to recognise the tireless work and best practice of aged care workers, organisations and carers of older Australians.

“Through the awards, we can acknowledge professional excellence in the aged care industry,” he said.

“The awards recognise innovation and commitment to staff development, education and training, leading to improved quality of care for our older Australians.

“If you know of an individual or an organisation providing exceptional aged care, I invite you to nominate them.

“For the first time, there will be two winners for each category - one from residential aged care and one from community aged care. This brings the number of awards to ten, valued at $10,000 each.”

The categories for the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care are: • Leadership and management - individual • Professional development - individual • Aged care lifestyle - individual • Training and staff development - organisation • Information technology - organisation.

Mr Pyne said he was pleased Ita Buttrose had again agreed to head the judging panel, and thanked her for her continued support.
