RICEGROWERS TAKE ON THE WORLD AND WIN

SunRice’s entry into the Taiwan rice market is welcome news for Australian rice farmers, and confirms the ability of Australia’s farmers to compete on the world stage.

The capture of 20 per cent of Taiwan’s recently-released rice quota is testimony to the quality product and skilled marketing of SunRice - a wholly Australian-owned ricegrower co-operative.

Unlike most of their international competitors, Australian ricegrowers don’t receive production or export subsidies. This contract was won in the face of stiff competition from subsidised US ricegrowers, making it all the more rewarding.

I congratulate SunRice growers, management and employees for winning this new contract.

SunRice’s latest export venture is a magnificent example of just how competitive Australian farmers can be when given the opportunity to compete for export market share.
