BISHOP CONGRATULATES NURSING ASSISTANT GRADUATES New South Wales aged care residents are set to benefit from today's graduating class of Nursing Assistants from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College.

Federal Minister for Aged Care, Bronwyn Bishop, will present graduation certificates to over 20 North Shore Nursing Assistants at a special Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College ceremony this afternoon.

"These students comprised two classes of the Certificate III in Care Support Services conducted at the College," Mrs Bishop said.

"I am proud to present these graduates with their certificates. Nursing Assistants play a critical role in the provision of high quality aged care. The community thanks these students for their hard work and dedication in achieving their new qualifications."

Since 1998 Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College has trained 150 participants for the Assistant Nursing course and is proud of the graduation success rate of 92 per cent. The course includes learning packages such as personal care, communication and emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.

"Quality of care is crucial to the success of our aged care services and I commend the commitment of the individuals, employers, mentors and educational institutions like Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College, for their role in enhancing quality of care through education and training," Mrs Bishop said.

"Studying to be a Nursing Assistant demands study commitment and demanding and today's graduates can be very proud of their achievements.

"They will make a valuable contribution with their newly acquired expertise and knowledge to further improve the aged care industry ensuring high quality care for NSW frail older Australians who need their care," Mrs Bishop said.

The graduates to whom Mrs Bishop presented certificates are attached.
