26 August 2005

South West Veteran’s Centre will receive a grant of $4,385 from the Australian Government to assist the veteran community to make claims for pensions and other benefits, Member for Wannon, David Hawker, announced today.

“Ex-service organisations (ESOs) play a vital role in supporting veterans, war widows and widowers, current and former defence members and their dependants through the claims application and appeals process,” Mr Hawker said.

“The South West Veteran’s Centre will receive $385 for internet access, $2,000 for travel expenses and another $2,000 for consumables.”

The Australian Government provides training and support for ESO welfare officers, pensions officers and advocates through the Training Information Program.

These funds complement the training program, ensuring these organisations have the resources to provide quality services and advice to the local veteran community.
