MEDALS ARE FOR VALOUR IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY - NOT FOR BEING AWOL 29 November 2006

A Government Senator today claimed that the Government deserved a medal for their handling of the AWB scandal.

Liberal Senator Alan Eggleston’s call for the government to be awarded a medal for going to sleep at their post while Australian members of the Armed forces were exposed on the front line is a disgrace.

“Yes, I think we do deserve a medal. We do deserve to be praised” said Senator Eggleston from the safety of the Senate.

No remorse at having endangered our troops through their gross negligence.

No remorse at having poured millions of dollars into Saddam’s armoury.

No remorse at letting our troops down.

No remorse for being missing in action

Just arrogant strutting and parading.

Imagine if a member of the ADF had committed such negligence or gone to sleep whilst on guard or sentry duty.

That soldier would be hauled before a Commanding Officer and most severely dealt with. His mates would not want to serve with him again and he would not be trusted with the lives of his comrades in the future.

Not for him excuses or scapegoats.

Why should this government be treated any differently?

They do not deserve a medal - they deserve to be dis-honourably discharged and drummed out of service.
