MEDIA RELEASE 21st October 2005

ROGER PRICE CONGRATULATES LOCAL INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS GRANT RECIPIENTS

Roger Price, the Federal Member for Chifley, today congratulated the 16 schools in our local area receiving grants for infrastructure improvements as part of the Investing in Our Schools Programme.

“This is a great, though long overdue, result for local schools” Mr Price said. “This money will provide for important repairs and new equipment for schools in our area, many of which have been waiting several months for this extra funding.”

Over $747,000 has been awarded for 22 grants to 17 Government schools in Chifley for Round One funding, for much needed items such as shade cloths, playground equipment, computers and air-conditioning.

“The Howard Government had originally promised this money would be approved in June this year’, Mr Price said.

“Instead the Education Minister had our local schools, who have been counting on these grants to manage their budgets, waiting four extra months for these funds.

“There is now little chance of many of these projects being completed before the end of the school year.”

Applications for Round Two of the Investing in Our Schools Programme are now closed and are due to be announced at the end of the year.

There is also a separate funding process for non-government schools. Any schools unsuccessful in Round One may still receive funding during Round Two 2005.
