AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR TO IRAN

The Minister for External Affairs (Mr. Paul Hasluck, M.P.),

announced today the appointment of Mr. Francis Barrington Hall, a

career officer of the Department of External Affairs, as the first

Australian Ambassador to Iran. Mr. Hall is at present Chief of

Protocol in the Department of External Affairs in Canberra.

Mr. Hall, who is aged 47, joined the Department of

External Affairs in 1943 after service with the ATF from 1944 to 1943. He has served previously in Chungking and Nanking, New

Delhi, Wellington, Kuala Lumpur, and Karachi, where he was

Counsellor in the Australian High Commission. Mr. Hall is married with four children.
