Minister joins Treasurer for outback visit

Federal Minister and Queensland Senator, Ian Macdonald, will today join Treasurer Peter Costello for two days of his visit to outback Queensland.

The trip will follow Senator Macdonald making a special presentation to Cabinet today on issues facing remote and regional communities.

Senator Macdonald’s presentation, addressing portfolio and electorate issues, coincides with Cabinet meeting in Cairns.

“Regional communities, and in particular northern Australian, contributes a great deal to the prosperity of the nation and I appreciate the opportunity to present to Cabinet their views,” Senator Macdonald said.

“I am also pleased to be able to join the Treasurer on his visit to outback Queensland and I hope I can provide some further input on regional communities and their needs.”

Last month, Senator Macdonald undertook a 3,500km road trip through Queensland’s central and far north visiting towns from Hughenden, Muttaburra, through to Winton, Middleton, Boulia and Mt Isa and up to Burketown, Karumba and Weipa.

Following Cabinet in Cairns, Senator Macdonald will join the Treasurer at the start of his outback trip in Longreach and continue for the first stage visiting Barcaldine, Blackall and Tambo.
