MINISTER FOR REGIONAL SERVICES, TERRITORIES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT SENATOR FOR QUEENSLAND

NEW SOLUTIONS THE KEY FOR AMBY

A local development idea from Amby to enhance the regional earnings from wild game harvesting has received a Federal Government boost with the announcement of $100,000 backing from the innovative Regional Solutions Programme.

The Federal Minister for Regional Services, Senator Ian Macdonald and Federal Member for Maranoa, Bruce Scott jointly announced the funding today.

Mr Scott said the funding would assist the Queensland Macropod and Wild Game Harvester Association (QMWGHA) to employ a project coordinator to implement their strategic plan.

“This funding provides the opportunity for Amby to facilitate and progress their own development solutions and to strategically target their community’s needs,” Mr Scott said.

“I have strongly supported the QMWGHA for some time. For instance, I made written and personal representations to my Ministerial Colleagues and put the Association in touch with relevant Government Departments.

“I also personally met with representatives of QMWGHA and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to try to progress this issue, and arranged for further meetings between the stakeholders.”

Senator Macdonald said Regional Solutions is a four year, $90 million funding programme designed to help regional and rural communities find local solutions to local challenges.

“I congratulate the QMWGHA and Mr Scott on their successful efforts to obtain funding through Regional Solutions,” Senator Macdonald said

“Through the Regional Solutions Programme, the Federal Government is putting opportunity for local and community development back into the hands of those who face the issues everyday - the communities themselves.”

The Regional Solutions application and assessment process is ongoing. Applications can be lodged at

any time and will be assessed on their individual merit, and the specific needs of the communities.
