Statement by the Minister

for Primary Industry, Mr. J.D. Anthony_

The Minister for Primary Industry, fair. J.D. Anthony,

announced today that he had approved a programme of wool

economics research for 1968-69 involving the provision of the

sum of 6310,729 from the Wool Research Trust Fund. This figure

compares with an allocation of ;287,48O in 1967-68.

Approximately 75 of the money allocated will go to the

Bureau of Agricultural Iconomics to support work in various

fields of interest and importance to the industry. The balance

has been allocated mainly to the Australian Universities for

work in such fields as management, drought and post-graduate

training.

The 1968-69 programmes for production research

(sr5,l26,862) and textiles research (13,890,335) have already

been approved and this allocation for economic research brings

the overall programme for sheep and wool research in 1968-69 to

a total of 549,327,926, an increase of approximately x;600,000 on

the allocations approved for 1967-68.
