INCREASE IN ADSTR.LIA-CANADA AIR SERVICES

Statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. LW. Swartz

Increased air services are to be introduced between Australia

and Canada as a result of an agreement signed in Canberra today.

The agreement gives Qantas a weekly service to Vancouver and

allows Canadian Pacific Air Lines equal rights into Sydney.

At present both airlines operate fortnightly services between

the two countries.

Announcing the agreoment today, Minister for Civil Aviation,

Mr. R.V7. Swartz said the increased weekly services would begin in October.

An Exchange of Notes -- the formal government approval - had taken

place in Canberra today between the Australian Department of External

Affairs and the Canadian High Commission.

Mr. Swartz said the additional services had been the result of an

increased volume of traffic between Australia and Canada.
