(Statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. R.W. Swartz)

A working group comprising representatives of the Department of

Civil Aviation and the International Air Transport Association is to stucyr

Australian aviation costs.

The group will begin its investigation as soon as possible.

This was announced by the Ianister for Civil Aviation,

Mr. R.W. Swartz after talks with an I.A.T.J . delegation in Melbourne today.

MT. Swartz said after the meeting that the delegation had made

submissions on factors which it believed the Government should take into

account when reviewing the Air Navigation Charges and other costs.

He added that costs affecting the aviation industry - domestic and

international operators - had been discussed at length.

The Australian G overnment had accepted the International Civil

Aviation Organisation policy of full recovery of costs suitably attributable

to the aviation industry, and this was acceptable to I.:n.T.A - which included

the world.'s major international air lines amongst its members.

He added th-.t the talks also covered the development of air traffic

in the Pacific - including Australia.
