PRESS RELEASE

MORE COMMUTER SERVICES FOR WESTERN AUS TPALIA

Joint statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation,

Mr. R.W. Swartz,

and the

W.A. Minister for Transport

Mr. R.J. O'Connor

Additional air commuter services have been approved in Western

Australia.

• Murchison Airlines Pty. Ltd. of Perth, who will operate to centres

in the Carnarvon and Port Hedla.n.d districts.

• Noeska Aviation of Kalgoorlie, will link Kalgoorlie with Norseman,

Esperance, Leonora and Laverton.

The new services were announced today by the Minister for Civil

Aviation, Mr. R.W. Swartz, and the Western Australian Minister for Transport,

Mr. R.J. O'Connor.

The Ministers said the services had been approved after careful

consideration by both the Commonwealth and State Governments and after

talks with representatives of MacRobertson Miller Airlines.

They added that ITsA had been concerned for some time about increasing

costs of these services when operated by large airline aircraft.

As a result the airline had decided to withdraw its services from

these areas.

The Ministers said both commuter operators would provide services

with fast, efficient, light aircraft.

They hoped the new services would receive the support they deserved.
