(Statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. R.W. Swartz)

Australia was re-elected to the International Civil Aviation

Organisation Council as one of the States of chief importance to

air transport.

The vote was taken at the 16th LOAD Assembly meeting in Buenos

Aires. Australia polled 94 of the p ossible 90 votes.

This was announced by the Minister for Civil Aviation,

Yr. R."1. Swartz, who will arrive back in Australia is tomorrow (Tuesday,

September 10) after leading the Australian delegation to the Assembly.

"Australia's re-election to the ICAO Council. reflects our position

as a leader in world aviation", Mr. Swartz said.

Other countries elected to the 27-member council as States of

chief importance to air transp ort included the United States, Britain,

Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Brazil.
