CALL ON STATE TO TAKE ACTION AT BAXTER-TOORADIN ROAD INTERSECTION

Tuesday, 11 January 2005

Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, met with local residents and members of the Blind Bight Residents and Ratepayers Association to call for the State government to take action to improve safety at the dangerous South Gippsland Highway and Baxter-Tooradin Road intersection.

Mr Hunt said, “It is high-time the State government listened to the concerns of local residents and take action to prevent loss of lives at this treacherous intersection.

“The Bracks State government seem to be avoiding this matter while in the meantime, local residents are taking their lives into their own hands every time they travel through this dangerous intersection. It is madness.

“I have taken this up with the City of Casey and VicRoads, who await a response from the State government to their submissions to make a commitment to the local community.

Mr Hunt met with Peter Galletta, local resident and campaigner for the road upgrade, Martin North, President of the Blind Bight Residents and Ratepayers Association (BBRRA) and Sandra Meredith, Secretary of BBRRA and Bob O’Connell, member BBRRA.
