RANDALL OFFERS SYMPATHY TO SRI LANKAN’S Tuesday, 16 August 2005

Federal Member for Canning and Chairman of the Sri Lankan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Don Randall MP today offered his sympathy and condolences to the family of the Hon Lakshman Kadirgamar, P.C Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, who was assassinated last Friday.

“This is a tragedy. Minister Kadirgamar’s vision for Sri Lanka was one of freedom and dignity and his tireless efforts to promote ethnic harmony amongst his fellow countrymen was an inspiration,” said Mr Randall.

“The Ministers life was cowardly taken by those who oppose his noble values and view for a peaceful Sri Lanka.

“I support the views expressed by Her Excellency President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in her address to the nation - ‘You cannot bow to terrorism or allow it to succeed. If we are to achieve lasting Peace, we need to deal with the root causes of the politics of violence and terror.’

“Minister Kadirgamar was a great man who was working hard to fight terrorism in the region and bring about a solution to the problems experienced by the Tamil people.

Mr Randall added his signature and personal message to the Condolence Book opened by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra and offers his deepest sympathies to Minister Kadirgamar’s family, his parliamentary colleagues and the nation of Sri Lanka.
