NEW JUDGE FOR THE FAMILY COURT IN MELBOURNE

 

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Heather Barbara Carter as a Judge of the Family Court of Australia.

 

Mrs Carte r, 53, has extensive experience in the family law jurisdiction. Mrs Carter’s appointment commences on 1 June 1998 and fills the vacancy in Melbourne arising from the retirement of the Honourable Justice Anthony Graham.

 

Mrs Carter was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1972. She practised as a barrister at the Victorian Bar from 1978 until 1990, specialising in the areas of family law and de facto relationships.

 

Between 1991 and 1995, Mrs Carter practised at the Independent Bar in Western Australia, again in the areas of family law and de facto relationships.

 

She has also held temporary appointments as Deputy Registrar and Magistrate of the Family Court of Western Australia. Mrs Carter returned to practise at the Victorian Bar in March 1996.
