Inquiry into planning for retirement - Further hearings on 15, 16 May

The Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation, Senator John Watson, today confirmed that the Committee will hold further public hearings on Thursday and Friday this week in connection with the Committee’s inquiry into planning for retirement. The dates and details of the public hearings are as follows:

Thursday 15 May, 3.30pm - 9.00pm, Committee Room 2S3

Friday 16 May, 9.00am - 11.00am, Committee Room 1S3

The Committee has already taken evidence from peak bodies in the superannuation and finance industries, academics, union representatives and individuals as part of its inquiry. On Thursday and Friday, the Committee is due to hear from the relevant government departments and agencies, including FaCS, DEWR, Treasury and APRA.

Commenting on conduct of the inquiry to date, Senator Watson noted: ‘The Committee has received some very interesting evidence during its previous public hearings, including a number of excellent proposals that would assist people to plan for, and make the transition from work to retirement. The Committee looks forward to exploring these proposals further with the relevant Government agencies.’

The Committee is due to report on its inquiry to the Senate by the last sitting day in June 2003.
