THE HON DUNCAN KERR SC MP FEDERAL MEMBER FOR DENISON PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR PACIFIC ISLAND AFFAIRS

MEDIA RELEASE Thursday January 3, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New funding for aged care in New Town

The Australian Government has announced $45,023 for the Mary Ogilvy Home in New Town to fund a High-Care Residential Care Place.

Generally, High-Care level care involves 24-hour nursing care as well as the provision of meals, laundry, cleaning and personal care.

Mary Ogilvy Home in Pirie Street, New Town is run by an independent non-profit society and has operated since 1946. With the addition of the extra High-Care place the home will be able to care for 80 people with a variety of needs.

“The competition for funding across the country is fierce and I am very pleased Ageing Minister Justine Elliott has funded an aged-care home in Denison,” federal MP Duncan Kerr said.

“However, Labor recognises there is a great deal of need in the community for more places and we look forward to announcing more relief measures soon.”
