RAVENDALE COMMUNITY SPORTS CENTRE OPENED IN PORT LINCOLN

Australian Government Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Warren Truss, and Federal Member for Grey, Barry Wakelin, today opened the Ravendale Community Sports Centre.

Mr Truss said Australian Government Regional Partnerships program funding of $550,000 helped construct and fit out the multi-purpose centre.

"This Regional Partnerships project provides the Port Lincoln community with higher standard facilities that will service more than 10 local sporting associations and clubs," he said.

Mr Wakelin said the centre will also help attract additional and higher-standard sporting events.

"The new Ravendale Community Sports Centre will also provide greater opportunity for participation by the community in sporting, recreational and social activities."

Mr Wakelin congratulated the local community for working together to access Regional Partnerships program funding to improve access to services and strengthen growth and opportunities.

The Regional Partnerships program continues the Australian Government's approach of working with local communities to support their ideas. A total of $360.9 million is available under the Regional Partnerships program from 2005-06 to 2008-09.

Mr Truss said the Regional Partnerships program would deliver benefits to communities well into the future, not only from program funding, but from the higher levels of economic activity and improved social amenity which the program was generating.

"Since its inception in July 2003, the Regional Partnerships program has, on average, attracted a further three dollars from other sources for every dollar invested by the Australian Government," he said.

Communities should contact their local Area Consultative Committee if they wish to seek funding through Regional Partnerships.
