The Hon Bob Baldwin MP Federal Member for Paterson

10 June 2008

The sun has finally come out for the children of Mt Kanwary Public School to enjoy their new-look play areas.

Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin MP was on hand to officially open the new improvements to the Osterley school which has seen wet weather dampen the completion of the projects.

The school’s students are now enjoying a new soft fall area under their play equipment and shade above it thanks to two Federal Government grants.

“The School was fortunate to receive not one but two Investing In Our School grants under the Coalition Government which enabled them to fund works the parent body had been busy saving for,” said Mr Baldwin.

“With the two grants, $37,758 in 2006 and $31,271 in 2007, they were able to put shade cover over an existing play and learning area, shade the existing play equipment, air condition one classroom and buy a ride on mower.

“The school community was then able to direct their hard earned fundraising into other areas of need at the school.”

Mr Baldwin said he was pleased to officially open the works which the 48 children and staff were already utilising.

“It really is a shame that the Investing In our Schools Program which has so obviously benefited this small school has been axed by the Rudd Labor Government.”

Principal Rosemary Stephenson said the soft fall area had been delayed by rain and the children were thrilled to be finally allowed to use the area.
