Press Release Ref: 1516 Published: 2/6/2005 Title: New Long Day Care Centre for Delegate

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, has announced Australian Government funding to help ensure the sustainability of a new long day care centre in Delegate.

Delegate & District Pre-School will receive funding of $282,476 through five approved places for children aged 0-24 months and 18 places for over 24 months.

“I am pleased to announce the sustainability funding for the new centre in Delegate which will provide child care for families where previously there has been no access to long day care. The centre will also provide opportunities for parents to participate in the communities, while allowing their children access to high quality and more affordable child care,” Mr Nairn said.

“The Howard Government funding will contribute to the cost of running the service and will assist it to remain viable while it continues to build its client base and utilisation rates to sustainable levels.

The Long Day Care Incentive Scheme is part of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy - Choice and Flexibility in Child Care. Under the scheme community and private providers are offered short term incentives to establish new, viable long day care centres in rural or urban fringe areas of high demand for child care places.

“The Howard Government is committed to providing choice and flexibility in child care options. Opening up 23 places in Delegate will assist the community and provide valuable child care,” Mr Nairn said.
