MORE WORK FOR DOLE PROJECTS FOR WANNON

Member for Wannon, David Hawker, today announced nine new Work for the Dole projects, providing work experience for over 60 unemployed people in Western Victoria.

Mr Hawker said that the projects are spread across the electorate, from painting projects in Camperdown and playground construction in Portland to golf course maintenance in Beaufort and landscaping in Casterton.

“Both job seekers and their local communities benefit from Work for the Dole projects,” Mr Hawker said.

”Participants are contributing to local communities by providing services and facilities that otherwise might not be available.

“At the same time they are developing skills and enhancing their employability.

“The bottom line is that Work for the Dole is working. It is part of the Government’s integrated approach to tackling long-term unemployment and as such, its success is reflected in the record low levels of unemployment and the significant falls in long term unemployment,” he said.

"I especially congratulate the local Community Work Coordinators and project sponsors who have successfully proposed these very worthwhile projects in our region. They are doing a great job in bringing benefits to both local unemployed people and to local communities in the Western Victoria.”
