SENATOR PENNY WONG ALP CAMPAIGN SPOKESPERSON

HOWARD CAUGHT OUT COPYING - AGAIN!

Less than a week after being caught out lifting a 1984 campaign theme from Ronald Reagan, John Howard has been at it again with his “Go for Growth” slogan.

Labor’s Campaign Spokesperson, Penny Wong, said that copying ideas from 23 years ago is another reminder of how stale Mr Howard’s Government has become.

Last week (Friday 12 October) Mr Howard launched the Liberals “Strong, Prosperous and Secure Australia” document.

• We want a strong, a prosperous, and secure America (President Ronald Reagan, Reagan-Bush Rally St. Louis, Missouri November 4 1984)

• What kind of country do we want? We want a strong, prosperous, and secure America (President Ronald Reagan, Republican Party Rally in Miami, Florida 23 July 1986)

Yesterday, Mr Howard and Mr Costello stood up in front of a shiny new “Go for Growth” banner - again just as President Reagan did 23 years ago.

• Let's challenge America in the next 76 days to raise her sights and reach for greatness. Let's Go for growth, and let's go for the gold.

(President Reagan Rally - National Convention in Dallas August 22nd, 1984)

• Might we consider taking our cue from our Olympic athletes? Rather than discourage risk taking and punish success, rather than raise taxes, let's Go for growth, and let's go for the gold. (President Reagan Rally in Cupertino, California September 3, 1984)

• Rather than punish success, rather than raise taxes, let us challenge America to raise her sights and reach for greatness. Let's go for the gold, let's Go for growth.

(Remarks at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, August 19, 1984)
