The National Party - Not Good Enough for Australia’s Youth

The Minister for Youth belongs to a Party that only 3% of young Australian voters would put first on their ballot paper.

In contrast, Labor attracts 43% of the primary vote of 18-24 year olds.

Just in case the Minister doesn’t understand the impact of these figures, I have taken the liberty of producing a graph:

0 5

10 15

20 25

30 35

40 45

Australian Labor Party National Party

In fact using these polls the National Party hasn’t been above 4% since early 1996! And the total Coalition primary vote in this group is only 29%.

“I believe Labor has more to offer the young people of this country than the Coalition. I am not ashamed of wanting to improve our appeal to young people beyond the 43% - it is my job and what young people deserve.”

“Despite the Minister’s smugness in today’s Question Time, surely the Minister for Youth has higher aspirations for his own party than 3%?”
