FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR VOLUNTARY GROUPS Voluntary groups throughout the region have an opportunity to apply for assistance under the Australian Government’s Grants to Voluntary Environment and Heritage Organisations, The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull said. Mrs Hull said applications for the program are now open and encouraged eligible environment and heritage organisations to apply. “Under this program, multi-year grants will be available - allowing community groups to plan their finances,” Mrs Hull said. “The Grants to Voluntary Environment and Heritage Organisations Program provides practical funding for administrative costs rather than specific projects. The funds could be used on salaries, office rental, office equipment or training for staff and volunteers. “Activities such as habitat recovery for native plants and animals, water quality improvement and tackling introduced pests are projects supported by the program. Additionally, the program also offers support to groups conserving our heritage for present and future generations.” Mrs Hull encouraged local groups to apply for funding which would assist them in continuing to run their organisations. Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to $10,000 a year over the three year funding period. Grants of higher amounts will be considered in exceptional circumstances and where a need is demonstrated. Guidelines and applications are available at www.deh.gov.au/programs/gveho, by email gveho@deh.gov.au or by calling 02 6274 244. Applications close on 2 December 2005 at 5pm. (End)
